Deborah is the Chief Communication and Engagement Officer for Women’s Funding Network (WFN). Her work is informed by career experience spanning media, healthcare, agency and human rights her work. Prior to WFN, Deborah served as Chief of Staff and Vice President of Communications at Global Fund for Women, where she led the organization’s communications, reputation/brand management, media relations and human resources.
Her agency experience as Senior Vice President at Fleishman Hillard International Communications, included specialties in healthcare, public health and the non-profit sectors. In addition to serving as Global Co-Chair of the Multicultural Practice group, Deborah helped guide award winning programs and initiatives for the firm’s global healthcare and environmental sustainability practice groups.
Deborah’s agency work was fueled by her experience as Director of Public Relations and Marketing for Truman Medical Centers, a large academic health system in Kansas City, Missouri.
An accomplished television news reporter and analyst for more than 35 years, Deborah has worked for local and international news organization and received numerous awards for investigative reporting and documentaries.
Outside of work, Deborah has been a tireless advocate for racial and social justice equity, political empowerment and freedom of the press. Her boards and community service reflect that commitment and include: Bay Area Blacks in Philanthropy, Association of Black Fundraising Executives, Wellesley Centers for Women, Reporters Without Borders and The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Deborah has a BA in Journalism from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and is conversant in French.
